About Alison M. Mitchell
Dr. Alison Mitchell became a family physician because she loves taking care of patients at every stage of their lives, from newborn to seniors, with a special emphasis on maternal and child health. "I value getting to know my patient's and their families," she says. "How many specialties allow you to care for several generations of one family? It's a privilege."
With an emphasis on prevention, Dr. Mitchell helps her patients make small changes that can have a big impact on their health. "My role is to help people learn how to stay healthy, but also teach them how to live well while managing a chronic illness, such as diabetes."
After earning her medical degree from the University of Minnesota, Dr. Mitchell completed her residency at San Jose Hospital Family Practice Program, an affiliate of Stanford University. She enjoys cooking, hiking with her dog and traveling. She speaks both Spanish and English.

I found Dr. Mitchell's approach somewhat dismissive, with limited engagement in problem-solving. The tone of the interaction felt tense and less open than expected, which made it challenging to have a productive exchange. Healthcare professionals have a responsibility to create a supportive and respectful environment for patients. Her dismissive manner detracted from productive dialogue and did not align with the standard of care patients deserve.
Providence Patient
Dr. Mitchell is easy to talk to, but it helps that I have known her a long time so we can easily pick up every time I have an appt.
Providence Patient
The office staff were very welcoming and Dr. Mitchell was very kind.
Providence Patient
Dr. Mitchell always seeks to find new ways to help me, and this time she had me try an anti-inflammatory that lasts 24hrs, rather than using ibuprofen intermittently. I'm really pleased with this new medication and have followed her direction to always take it with dinner. She's a pro as in super professional, very experienced, along with being creative, sympathetic, kind and able to track and remember my medical issues in all their complexity. Please don't let her move or retire (yet) !! Thank you.
