About Charla B. Allen
Charla B. Allen, MD, MEd, FAAFP is a board-certified family physician at Grace Clinic in Lubbock, Texas. She brings over a decade of clinical experience and a deep commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care. Dr. Allen received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lubbock Christian University. She earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC), where she also completed her residency training in Family Medicine and served as chief resident. Prior to entering medicine, Dr. Allen spent nearly a decade as a high school science teacher and department chair, a role that instilled in her a lasting passion for mentorship, leadership, and education. This background continues to inform her approach to medicine, where she emphasizes collaboration, patient empowerment, and honest communication. From 2015 to 2024, Dr. Allen served on the faculty at TTUHSC in the Department of Family and Community Medicine, rising to the role of Associate Professor, Associate Program Director of the Family Medicine Residency, and most recently, Interim Department Chair. In addition to her academic and leadership roles, she was also the medical director for Texas Tech Physicians Family Medicine Clinic, where she led quality improvement projects focused on vaccination outreach, mental health screening, and patient safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Clinically, Dr. Allen enjoys caring for patients of all ages, with special interests in women’s health, chronic disease management, and adolescent medicine. She believes in treating the whole person and sees trust, mutual respect, and open communication as foundational to effective care. Her goal is always to ensure that patients feel heard, valued, and actively involved in decisions about their health. Dr. Allen is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and an active member of multiple professional organizations. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time with her family. She is thrilled to bring her experience and dedication to the team at Grace Clinic and looks forward to continuing to build meaningful relationships with her patients and the West Texas community.
