About Douglas L. Nguyen
Dr. Douglas Nguyen is a board-certified Gastroenterologist. He completed his medical school training at the University of Cincinnati, followed by Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology training at the Mayo Clinic-Rochester and UC-Irvine. Dr. Nguyen has published over 150 peer review abstracts, publications, and book chapters. He sub-specializes in the Inflammatory Bowel Disease, high risk nutrition, and chronic liver disease. His previous appointments have included Professor of Medicine and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at Loma Linda University and UC-Irvine Health. He returns to Orange County where he hopes to continue his strong partnership with existing and new patients in the area to promote optimal GI and liver health.

Dr. Nguyen was very professional and personable and was interested in why I was there. He looked at my cscan that was previously taken and discussed with me what the scan showed. Gave me an antibiotic prescription for a month for possible inflamation in my lower stomach and I have an appt in Dec for an update on this condition.

I am coming to Dr. Nguyen after a bad experience with a doctor that is not part of Providence, Mission Heritage. When I got there I was greeted by one of the receptionists. He told me his name, got signatures and off I sat to wait to be called. I waited less than 5 mins In the waiting room before I was called back. The nurse took me to a room and asked me a few question. It was only 2-3 mins before the doctor came In and Introduced himself to me. Dr. N was amazing! He was very knowledgeable, kind, respectful and knew how to get a plan in action for me. He was quick but did not rush me or make me feel rushed. He explained how he thinks I got this problem and what meds I would need to help the problem. He spoke with me how he can help two of my issues with one medication. And how that medication would be administered. Hr assured me he was going to get me feeling better. I am so happy with my care from this doctor and would recommend Dr Nguyen to all of my family and friends. He cares about his patients.

For the provider not to presume what question the patient is going to ask and an answer without letting the patient finish their question. For the provider to explain recommended procedures in detail such as an endoscopy since not everyone has had one before. For the provider to be fully engaged and not distracted while on the virtual call.

Dr. Nguyen has been extremely helpful and kind in helping me cope with and in sending RX for Tremfya, a biologic for ulcerative colitis. It is a difficult illness with no cure, only a hope for remission. Unfortunately the Tremfya has not stopped the diarrhea and Dr. Nguyen started me on a 4 week coarse of Rinvoq to take daily along with the Tremfya injections that I administer every 4 weeks. Hopefully this will help get me to remission. This has been a very difficult and stressful journey and his knowledge and compassion have been extremely valuable to me.
