Chris B. Hyun, MD

I graduated from Dartmouth College and earned my medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School In Chicago. I spent 12 years as a U.S. Navy physician, completing my Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology trainings at the Naval Medical Center San Diego. I later moved to Portland because I had grown up here and grew to love all that Portland has to offer. In addition, I found The Portland Clinic to have a collegial environment, which was appealing to me.

I offer a range of services and procedures relating to Gastroenterology including; consultative gastroenterology and hepatology, gastroscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, esophageal dilation, bougie and balloon, Botox injection for achalasia, esophageal manometry, 24-hour acid reflux monitoring, liver biopsy, paracentesis, capsule endoscopy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, control of upper/lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage, endoscopic treatment of esophageal varices, radiofrequency of Barret’s esophagus, advanced endoscopy, endoscope ultrasound and breath tests. My approach to patient care is taking the time to explain symptoms and diagnosis. I want patients to leave the visit understanding exactly how the diagnosis is causing the symptoms and hence what the therapies do to help alleviate the symptoms.

I balance practicing medicine at The Portland Clinic with spending time in the outdoors whether it is skiing, playing tennis or soccer, or working in my yard.
