About Mark C. Mason
Deciding to be a surgeon was easy for Mark Mason, M.D., who found his calling during the first week of his general surgery rotation in medical school. “I always knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to helping people reclaim their health,” he recalls. “But surgery was a natural fit for me. I valued the safe and efficient way surgery resolves problems patients face on a daily basis and helps them return to feeling well again.”
Today in his medical practice, Dr. Mason specializes in a full complement of general surgery services with an emphasis on minimally invasive surgery and gastrointestinal health issues. He emphasizes the importance of education to produce the safest, most efficient, quality outcomes for his patients. “My role is to ensure that patients understand the disease process, their choices, and ultimately the surgical plan,” he explains. “I help them learn about all aspects of their care so they can make wise decisions with the safest operation using the least invasive method possible.”
Dr. Mason uses a minimally invasive approach that “will lead to patients having a decreased length of stay in the hospital, less pain, and faster return to a normal lifestyle.”
After earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Dr. Mason enrolled at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine for medical school. He completed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, where his training focused on minimally invasive surgery. He then underwent additional training in robotic surgery, adding another less-invasive surgery tool. Prior to coming to Providence, Dr. Mason was chief of surgery at Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He served as the carrier surgeon for the USS John C. Stennis and USS Harry S. Truman.
Married with three children, Dr. Mason enjoys all types of sports and outdoor activities with his family.

I saw Dr. Mason for the first time.He was extremely knowledgeable and professional. He took the necessary time with me and was willing to answer all my questions. He was kind, professional and very caring about my wellbeing. It is likely than in the future I would need to have surgery with him for my condition. He offered for me to call without the need to make an appointment. He offered to call me back and schedule the surgery at that time.I live I in Kneeland, CA, about 4 hours away from Medford, OR, so the provider was kind enough to give me a break In driving.I consider this to be extremely thoughtful from Dr. Mason.I'm definitely delighted with his professionalism and care.

Dr. Mason was recommended to me by my Gyn at the time when I was due for a colonoscopy. He and his staff were great so I went back 10 years later for my most recent colonoscopy. Also discussed hemorrhoids, which I'll be saying goodbye to tomorrow, with his help! Dr. Mason is highly respected by hospital staff -- I talk when I'm nervous, like waiting for a colonoscopy! I trust him with my butt and my health in general.

He is the best doctor I have ever had. I would him to be my primary doctor.
Providence Patient
Dr. Mason and his team were engaging, professional and quickly accomplished the minor surgery with attention to detail. Parking and walking to the surgery consumed about as much time as the procedure Itself. Bravo.
