About Matthew McCartney

Dr. Matthew McCartney, DO is a Hematology and Medical Oncologist. After graduating from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, he attended Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania. He completed Internal Medicine residency at McLaren Greater Lansing/Michigan State University and then went on to complete Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship at the University of Florida- Jacksonville. He achieved the distinction of Chief fellow during his oncology training and enjoyed helping is co-fellows strive to achieve excellence in their training. During fellowship he developed an interest in breast, lung and gastrointestinal cancers. As a native Minnesotan, Dr. McCartney, enjoys spending time outdoors and enjoying the natural wonders of the world. He enjoys hiking, fishing, camping and golfing. When he’s not exploring nature he enjoys woodworking, playing board games and reading fantasy novels. He has four boys who keep him and his wife on the edge of their seats all of the time. Dr. McCartney remarked that, “I am excited to become a part of the Spokane community and to take care of you and your families as you face one of the most challenging eras in your life.” He believes in patient-centered, evidence-based care and working with patients to find the best treatments to fight and win against cancer.

When not working, Matthew enjoys being outdoors (camping, hiking, fishing), he also likes playing board games, reading fantasy novels and woodworking. When he is not doing those things he is playing with his four kids or taking them on an adventure.
