About Sohil R. Makwana
Sohil Makwana, MD, MPH, chose to practice primary care medicine to promote whole health and to prevent, as well as treat, disease. In his practice, he addresses the root causes of illness, which often include socioeconomic influences, emotional wellness, and environmental factors. "To achieve optimal health, we must consider the whole person and the social determinants of health," he says. "With my experience in internal medicine and preventive medicine, I passionately aim to provide a holistic patient-centered approach as well as population health-centered care." He is a strong proponent of preventive health education and having holistic care becoming accessible to all.
In addition to preventive care, Dr. Makwana emphasizes a collaborative empowered relationship with his patients. "In this empowerment model, patients are guided towards healing physically, emotionally and spiritually. This model encourages them to thrive and live their healthiest and happiest lives," he says.
Dr. Makwana graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master's degree in Public Health. He completed his internal medicine residency training at Overlook Medical Center - Atlantic Health System, in Summit, New Jersey. His passion for public health led him to pursue a preventive medicine fellowship at University of Kentucky where he was the American Cancer Society fellow. His research focused on the impact of socioeconomic deprivation on cervical cancer screening and provided valuable insights into the root causes of high rates of cancer in the Appalachian region.
Dr. Makwana's love for nature drew him to the Pacific Northwest. He is a passionate nature photographer and mountain hiker. He experiences and expresses his spirituality through his deep connection with nature. Spending time in nature refreshes and renews Dr. Makwana with positive energy which in turn enables him to give his best at work.
