Haris Zaheer, MD

Dr. Haris Zaheer was born in Karachi, Pakistan and had moved away from the city during his early childhood. He eventually came back to the city attend medical school at the Aga Khan University. Receiving his medical education at an institution affiliated with one of the largest hospitals in one of the most densely populated cities in the world highlighted the importance of preventive care and helped foster his passion for advancing it. During medical school, he had the opportunity to train with physicians in the United States through away rotations, where he gained insight into the structure of training and collaborative learning environment. This exposure broadened his perspective on medical education and ultimately led him to pursue residency training in Internal Medicine at The Danbury Hospital in Danbury CT. He elected to pursue the primary care track within Danbury Hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program, where he was further exposed to the unique healthcare challenges faced by both individuals and health systems in the region. Through the hospital’s affiliation with Yale University, he spent time training in New Haven, gaining valuable clinical experience (along with the realization that New Haven pizza may, in fact, be better than New York pizza). After completing his residency training, Dr. Zaheer moved to Northern Maine to practice as an outpatient internist in a rural setting, where he was able to foster his love of primary care alongside his appreciation for the outdoors. For more than three years, he practiced medicine in this resource-limited setting, navigating the challenges of rural healthcare while spending his free time hiking, kayaking on nearby lakes, and listening to his favorite audiobooks. In late 2025, Dr. Zaheer relocated to Eastern Washington, in part to be closer to family and friends. He is excited to join the Providence team and support their mission of providing excellent care to the Walla Walla community. Outside of work, Dr. Zaheer enjoys cooking, often testing his friends’ and family’s tolerance for ever-increasing spice levels, as well as hiking and exploring the natural beauty around Walla Walla.
