About Christopher A. Sarkiss

Christopher A. Sarkiss, MD, FACS, FAANS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurosurgeon with a subspecialty focus in neurosurgical oncology and spine. Dr. Sarkiss is the Founder and Chairman of the Global Brain & Spine Institute. He specializes in the treatment of complex, minimally-invasive brain and spine surgery. Dr. Sarkiss graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and a minor in Political Science. Thereafter, he attended the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA for medical school graduating with honors. He then joined the Department of Neurosurgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City to complete his neurosurgical residency. Afterwards, Dr. Sarkiss completed a surgical neuro-oncology fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami Health System. Additionally, he served as a clinical research fellow where his research efforts focused on neuro-oncology, spine, socioeconomics, machine learning, and surgical simulation. He most recently served as the System Medical Director for Neurosurgery and Neuro-Oncology for Advocate Health System in Wisconsin where he was voted as a top neurosurgeon in consecutive years.
Dr. Sarkiss is one of only a handful of fellowship-trained neurosurgeons specializing in neurosurgical oncology. He has expertise in treating and performing surgery for gliomas, brain metastasis, meningiomas, pituitary tumors, skull base surgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, and spine tumors. He is an expert in various surgical techniques that include minimally invasive endoscopic surgery, awake craniotomy, cortical stimulation and brain mapping, laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), robotic surgery, and 5-ALA fluorescence-guided tumor surgery. In addition to his neurosurgical oncology specialization, Dr. Sarkiss also treats degenerative spine disease, spinal pain, hydrocephalus, Chiari Malformation, intracerebral hemorrhage, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Dr. Sarkiss has published over 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and several book chapters. He has presented his work at numerous national and international meetings and was an invited speaker at the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the World Federation of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Sarkiss has won many awards including The Kalmon D. Post, MD Neurosurgery Publication Award for his research. He is also involved with organized neurosurgery as a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, California Association of Neurological Surgeons, American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society, Society for Neuro-Oncology, and The Royal Society of Medicine.
In his spare time, he enjoys playing basketball, photography, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
