Geetha Puthenveetil, MD

Dr. Geetha Putheveetil specializes in all aspects of hematology with emphasis in hemoglobinopathies, including beta thalassemia and sickle cell disease, and is part of the national sickle cell network. She is currently part of an international study looking at standards of care with sickle cell patients. Helping to facilitate this research, Dr. Putheveetil established a comprehensive red cell clinic at CHOC to treat patients with red cell disorders—including sickle cell disease, thalassemia, aplastic anemia, and Diamond-Blackfan Anemia. The clinic is attended by a cardiologist, endocrinologist, and hematologist and provides comprehensive care for patients. Dr. Puthenveetil is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology-oncology. Prior to joining CHOC Children’s, Dr. Puthenveetil attended medical school in India at St. John’s Medical College. She served her pediatric residency training at St. John’s Medical College Hospital and at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York and completed a pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles/University of Southern California. Dr. Puthenveetil was voted as one of Orange County’s Top Doctors and speaks fluent Hindi and Malayalam.
