About April D. Clayton
Dr. April Clayton, Psy.D., is a Clinical Psychologist at Canby Family Medicine. She began her health care and psychology journey at Portland State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Criminology/Criminal Justice. She went on to receive a Master's degree in professional psychology and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from William James College in Boston, Massachusetts. During each year of her doctoral program, Dr. Clayton participated in practicum training at an array of sites focusing on the assessment and treatment of mental health disorders for individuals across the lifespan. Additionally, she received advanced practicum and post-doctoral training focused on the assessment and treatment of incarcerated sexual offenders. She was also trained within the Massachusetts Trial Courts in the evaluation of competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility of defendants. Dr. Clayton has been practicing as a licensed psychologist since 2022, with a focus on assessment and treatment of various mental health disorders. Her current practice emphasizes evidence-based care and collaborative treatment, and she believes in the ability for individuals to make meaningful changes through therapeutic interventions. Dr. Clayton is especially passionate about caring for individuals who have been marginalized or who have had limited access to psychological care. In addition to her clinical work, she has contributed to the supervision of trainees and new psychologists in the past and seeks to continue this practice in the future. Outside of work, she enjoys listening to audible books, learning new things, writing, traveling, and trying out new recipes. Dr. Clayton especially loves spending time with her family, hiking, camping, and enjoying nature. In all facets of life, Dr. Clayton believes she has a mandate to love her neighbor as herself and treat patients the same way she would want to be treated. This means she aims to work collaboratively with patients and their primary care team to provide the best outcomes possible using evidence-based practices.
