J. R. Sales, MD

Dr. Sales, co-medical director of Providence Oregon Spine Center, is an orthopedic spine surgeon focusing on minimally invasive, complex spine procedures and reconstruction. He founded the Summit Spine clinic in 2007.
Dr. Sales takes a conservative approach to treating spinal conditions and injuries. In addition to providing minimally invasive spinal surgeries such as disc replacements, spinal cord stimulator implantation, and spinal fusion, Dr. Sales and his team provide comprehensive treatment plans combining medication, injections, and collaboration with physical therapists and chiropractors to help patients recover without surgical intervention.
When surgery is necessary, Dr. Sales and his team pride themselves on helping patients return to their homes and regular activities quickly and safely.
Dr. Sales earned his medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation at Oregon Health & Science University. He chose to focus exclusively on spine surgery, and completed a spine surgery fellowship at San Francisco Spine Institute.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Sales enjoys hiking, skiing, and spending time with his wife and two children.
