About Darryl Schuitevoerder
When meeting patients with a recent cancer diagnosis there is a unique need for empathy, understanding, support and information sharing. The opportunity to build a partnership with patients is extremely important and rewarding for me. Central to this is that patients understand their diagnosis, the rationale behind the treatments being recommended, and that they feel comfortable with their team. Only then can we truly provide comprehensive care for our patients. My passion lies in the surgical management of gastrointestinal malignancies. Specifically, gastric, liver, biliary, pancreas and neuroendocrine tumors of the GI tract. Other cancers I treat include sarcoma, melanoma, breast cancer and intestinal cancers. I have a particular interest in minimally invasive and robotic surgery and regularly employ these advanced technologies to remove cancers and obtain optimal outcomes for patients. As a board-certified surgical oncologist, I have specific knowledge and skills related to the diagnosis, multidisciplinary treatment, and rehabilitation required by patients with cancer, especially those with complex presentations or requiring complex surgical procedures, or with rare or unusual cancers. Our cancer center employs a truly multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, meeting weekly to prospectively discuss all new cancer cases. Through these collaborative efforts we are able to provide a consensus treatment plan for our patients and obtain the best possible outcomes.
