We celebrate the birth of every baby at Kadlec and realize this is a special, unique experience for each family. Sometimes newborn babies require extra care, and we are proud to provide this through the area's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). We partner with Providence Sacred Heart Children's Hospital.

We treat high-risk babies who need specialized care. Kadlec's NICU accepts premature babies starting at 24 gestational weeks, as well as full-term babies who need extra care. Babies in our care weigh between 1 and 13 pounds. The average length of stay for each baby ranges from a few hours to more than three months.

Our newly expanded NICU features 27 private rooms, allowing us to care for more babies closer to home. The unit is designed to ensure babies get the highest quality care possible. Each isolette has its own lighting controls and has been soundproofed to ensure a quiet environment. Family comfort includes:

  • A parent room for quiet time
  • Private space for consultations with physicians
  • 24-hour-a-day visitation
  • Sleeping chairs in each room
  • The ability to control each room's lighting individually

Kadlec's partnership with Providence Sacred Heart Children's Hospital allows us to provide a full range of specialized staff to care for babies in our NICU. Experienced and well-trained nurses care for the infants 24 hours a day. Specialists include:

  • Neonatologists
  • Neonatal nurse practitioners
  • Certified staff
  • Tenured staff

We are committed to providing your high-risk newborn with the best care possible.

Having your baby admitted to the NICU can be scary. We strive to support parents and caregivers of high-risk babies in every way possible. This includes offering services that extend beyond caring for your baby's medical needs. We offer additional support staff and programs including:

  • Lactation specialists
  • Case managers
  • Social workers
  • Genetic counseling
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Bereavement programs
