Our Commitment

S: Service: Dedicated and highly trained medical providers and clinicians focused on serving survivors of violence.

A: Accessibility: Medical care that is accessible, equitable, and available for all regardless of ability to pay.

F: Fortitude: Working together to foster resilience and strength.

E: Empowerment: Collaborative medical care to support choice and autonomy for survivors.

The Providence S.A.F.E. program offers comprehensive, trauma-informed medical care to individuals who have experienced sexual, physical, or psychological violence. We believe that everyone in our community has the right to feel safe and to be treated with care and respect.

Our team of highly trained clinicians, forensic nurses, and medical staff will meet with you to ensure that you are receiving the highest quality medical care and can offer several options including evidence collection, STI and pregnancy prophylaxis medications, forensic photography, assistance reporting to police, and connection to local resources.

In addition to acute medical examinations, the Providence S.A.F.E. Center offers a wide range of follow up services to support you every step of the way. With options for in-clinic or virtual visits, our providers can offer holistic medical care in a setting that is comfortable, safe, and secure.

Our forensic nurses are available to provide specialty care to individuals who have experienced:

  • Sexual assault
  • Physical violence
  • Strangulation
  • Sex or labor trafficking
  • Abuse
  • Neglect
Medical-forensic examinations

After a consultation, our clinicians and nurses can offer a variety of services including:

  • Comprehensive physical examinations
  • Collection of evidence
  • Assess your overall health after a physical or sexual assault

Medical exam expenses may be covered by the Oregon state Sexual Assault Victims’ Emergency Medical Response Fund or the Oregon state Crime Victims’ Compensation Program.

Staff will dispatch an advocate from a local agency who will either meet you in the clinic or at the hospital depending on the location you choose. Advocates are volunteers who are specially trained to assist you through this difficult time. You may also bring a support person with you.

You do not need to report to the police to be seen by our medical staff and your options for reporting will be discussed with you during your visit.
