Along with our state-of-the-art cancer treatments, the Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center offers a specially designed Cancer Fatigue Program. The program is dedicated to providing ongoing and compassionate support to patients receiving cancer treatment.
One of the most common side effects of cancer treatment is fatigue. Many patients assume it is something they just have to live with, but our Cancer Fatigue Program is specifically designed to combat cancer-related fatigue and other cancer treatment side effects such as issues with balance and limitations on movement, flexibility and strength.
Treatment for cancer-related fatigue, which is usually covered by insurance, begins with a referral from your doctor. After a thorough evaluation, our therapists develop a customized treatment plan that focuses on your specific needs. The overall goal is to improve and enhance each person's quality of life during and after treatment.
During cancer-related fatigue treatment, patients have one-on-one sessions in the gym with a therapist. Depending on each individual's needs, an exercise program includes focus on strength, balance, flexibility and aerobics.
Once patients have completed their cancer-related fatigue treatment, the Cancer Fitness Program provides ongoing support for patients who want to continue with an exercise program. The Cancer Fitness Program is available to all cancer patients with clearance from their physician. The program allows patients to make use of the medically supervised gym at the Disney Family Cancer Center.
