Physician Enterprise names new CMO and COO

The Providence Physician Enterprise team announced that two new executives will join the team soon.  Daniel Carey, MD, MHCM, FACC, as Chief Medical Officer effective after the first of the year and Prasanna Mohanty as Chief Operating Officer effective Dec. 6.

“Together as a team we have been able to maintain our focus during a global pandemic, continue to make great progress toward our goals of providing Providence patients with an exceptional care experience, and helping them to live the healthiest life possible,” said Dr. David Kim, chief executive of Physician Enterprise at Providence. “I look forward to partnering with both leaders to continue the important work of our Physician Enterprise.”

Dr. Daniel Carey, chief medical officer will provide oversight and guidance to strategic alignment, quality, safety, physician leadership development and care delivery models for the Physician Enterprise.

Dr. Carey joins Providence from the Commonwealth of Virginia, where he spent the past four years serving as Secretary of Health and Human Resources leading 12 agencies. With a focus on expanding access to affordable health care for Virginians, Dr. Carey has aimed to improve the Commonwealth’s behavioral health and developmental services programs and made meaningful progress on issues such as substance use and addiction, women’s health, and children’s issues.

While in this role, Dr. Carey orchestrated a successful state-wide pandemic response – from testing strategy, containment effort, contact tracing and vaccination – in coordination with the Governor and Virginia General Assembly.

Prasanna Mohanty, chief operating officer will be responsible for the operational direction of the Physician Enterprise. He will work closely with leaders across Providence and will oversee alignment across our regions and medical groups as we continue to develop and implement strategies to optimize our patients’ journey and provide high-quality and cost-effective care to our communities.

A proven leader in healthcare, Prasanna has successfully led teams across a variety of health care systems. He comes to us with nearly 20 years of operational experience developing and executing health plan, hospital, and ambulatory strategic plans. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Clinical Operations for Cedars-Sinai Medical Network in Los Angeles, where he oversaw clinical services, health information, and ancillary services and provided oversight and operational integration of acquired physician practices.
