Mission Hospital was founded in Mission Viejo in 1971 by a group of proactive, physicians who realized the need for accessible, quality medical care to serve the growing community. Over the decades, Mission Hospital has continued to develop new programs and services to meet the community’s ever changing needs. In 1993, Mission Hospital partnered with CHOC Children’s to provide pediatric services and a year later, became a member of the St. Joseph Health, which is a nonprofit Catholic health care ministry founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. In 2009, Mission Hospital expanded its geographic footprint to include South Orange County’s coast line by acquiring Mission Hospital Laguna Beach.
Sisters of St. Joseph - A Legacy of Caring
St. Joseph Health is a ministry sponsored by the St. Joseph Health Ministry, who originated in 17th century France with the unique vision of a Jesuit priest named Jean-Pierre Médaille. He visualized an order of religious women who would venture out into the community, seek out "the dear neighbors" and minister to their needs.
In 1912, a small contingent of the Sisters of St. Joseph came to Eureka, California, to establish a school. With the influenza epidemic of 1918, the Sisters temporarily abandoned their education efforts to care for the sick. They realized the small community desperately needed a hospital. In 1920, the Sisters opened St. Joseph Hospital of Eureka.
Today the Sisters continue their work through the sponsorship of acute care hospitals, home health care, rehabilitation programs, primary care clinics and many community outreach and wellness programs. In each community we touch, we reach out to care for the poor and vulnerable.

Mission Hospital Executive Team
Jennifer Cord, RN, DNP, MBA, NE-BC - Chief Nursing Officer
Jennifer Cord brings more than 33 years of clinical and executive leadership experience in Catholic Health care to Mission Hospital. She comes to us from Presence Health, a large Catholic health system in Illinois, where she served most recently as Regional Chief Operations, Ambulatory/Ancillary Mission Officer. Cord was responsible for oversight of clinical and ancillary departments, working closely with the medical staff and clinical leaders to bring quality, patient-centered services to the community. Prior to this role, she served as Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care for the Presence Covenant Medical Center ministry. She also served on multiple community Boards including the YMCA, United Way, Crisis Nursery, Lakeview College of Nursing, and Boys and Girls Club.
Cord started her career in Women’s and Children, followed by working and directing in various areas of nursing inpatient and outpatient, including designing and implementing a multi-physician home health agency, cancer center and ambulatory surgery centers. She has a Doctorate in Nursing (DNP) from Rush University, Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Western Governors University, Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) from University of Phoenix, Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Indiana Wesleyan University, a Graduate Certificate in Mission Leadership from Loyola University, and Ethics Certificate from Georgetown University Kennedy Institute. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), Catholic Hospital Association (CHA), American Association of California Nurse Leaders (ACNL). American Nurses Association (ANA) and American Hospital Association (AHA).
Terri Covert - Chief Human Resources Officer
Terri Covert has been part of St. Joseph Health for more than 20 years and currently serves as part of the executive team as the Chief Human Resources Officer for Providence Mission Hospital’s Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach campuses. Covert leads the hospital's local HR team, while also serving as the liaison to the Providence HR team.
Covert began her Human Resources career as a Personnel Manager with Target Stores while completing her Bachelor’s degree in History at University of California, Riverside. After working for a third party insurance administrator in Los Angeles, she began her employment with St. Joseph Hospital in 1993 and held successive roles as an HR Consultant, HR Manager and HR Director. In 2002, Covert transferred to Mission Hospital and in 2012 assumed the Vice President role. During her time at Providence Mission Hospital, Covert completed her Master’s of Science in Organizational Development from Capella University and led to the successful creation and implementation of the hospital’s leadership development program “Center for Mission Leadership.”
Covert lives locally in Ladera Ranch with her husband, son and daughter.
Austine Duru, MDiv, MA, MHA, BCC - Chief Mission Integration Officer
Austine Duru is an experienced mission leader who enhances the integration of mission culture in ways that infuse compassion, strength and vibrancy. He most recently served as a Vice President of Mission for Bon Secours Mercy Health. His many accomplishments include, reorganizing and strengthening the Mission and Spiritual Care divisions, transitioning Community Health to better align with ministry strategy, and advocating for the establishment of an interdisciplinary team to address employee resilience and moral distress. He also oversaw the integrated and ongoing response to COVID-19 for patients, families and staff across markets, from a psycho-socio-spiritual health perspective.
Austine holds a Master of Divinity and Master of Theology from the Catholic Theological Union at Chicago and a Bachelor of Philosophy from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome. He recently completed his Master of Healthcare Administration. He is a certified chaplain with the National Association of Catholic Chaplains. Austine relocated to Orange County with his wife Rachel and three lovely children.
Brian Fuller, MBA - Director of Strategy and Business Development
Brian Fuller serves as Director of Strategy and Business Development. Fuller is responsible for developing and executing strategic growth plans for the Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach hospital campuses, as well as Mission Hospital’s clinics, ambulatory centers and other associated business lines. He works closely with Southern California regional leaders and ministries to ensure alignment integration. Prior to joining Providence, he served in a wide range of development, operations and strategy roles in governmental, corporate and private organizations. Fuller earned his Master’s in Business Administration from California State San Marcos and his Bachelor of Arts from University of Oregon.
Eileen Haubl, CPA, MBA - Chief Financial Officer
Eileen is a 31-year veteran of Providence currently working as the Chief Financial Officer of Mission Hospital and Mission Hospital Laguna Beach. In this capacity she has oversight for Accounting, Facilities, Laboratory, and Mission Surgery Center. Eileen began her career in public accounting with Coopers and Lybrand and still holds an active CPA license.
Eileen has a black belt in Lean methodology. She received a master’s degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University and her undergraduate degree in Business Administration from University of Pacific.
Carrie Arneth Miller - Director, Communications
Carrie Arneth Miller brings more than 25 years of strategic communications and media relations experience, primarily in hospital public relations, to her role as Director of Communications. She oversees internal and external communications across Mission Hospital including media relations, social media and community relations. Miller’s work helps to increase Mission Hospital’s brand awareness, image and preference, and plays a critical role in supporting the development of various clinical areas.
John D. Miller - Chief Philanthropy Officer
John Miller joined the Providence Mission Hospital family as Chief Philanthropy Officer in April 2018, bringing extensive leadership experience in all aspects of fundraising, with a passion for health care. Prior to Providence Mission, John held senior leadership positions in fundraising, alumni relations, and public affairs at Providence Saint John’s Health Center Foundation in Santa Monica, Pepperdine University and UCLA.
Since John’s arrival, Providence Mission Hospital Foundation has successfully completed fundraising campaigns to launch the Judi and Bill Leonard Institute for Cancer Prevention, Treatment and Wellness and to expand Mission’s two emergency departments in Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo. The Foundation also has been instrumental in obtaining resources needed to support the hospital’s COVID-19 response and helping Mission assemble the finest array of robotic surgery platforms to be found anywhere in Orange County. Plans are now in development for a comprehensive campaign, expected to include the modernization of key hospital facilities in both Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach.
John earned a B.A. in Economics from UCLA and a Master of Divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. An ordained minister, John spent the first 16 years of his career in pastoral ministry. Active in the community, John and his wife, Dr. Charlene Underhill Miller, have been actively involved in providing mental health services to underserved children and youth, as well as providing foster care to children and support services to emancipated foster youth.
Evelyn Schlosser, MPH, MA, RN, CPHQ, CPPS - Executive Director, Acute Care Operations and Quality
As Executive Director of Acute Care Operations and Quality, Evelyn Schlosser is accountable for the development and implementation of strategies to improve the quality outcomes, patient safety, regulatory readiness and operational efficiency at Providence Mission Hospital.
Schlosser's experience includes leadership roles at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Vermont. Schlosser received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing, Cum Laude, from Widener University in Pennsylvania, and served four years as a U.S. Army Nurse. She holds two graduate degrees: a Masters of Arts from Norwich University and a Master of Public Health from Dartmouth College. In addition to her nursing background, Schlosser is certified as a six sigma black belt as well as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and a Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS).
Linda Sieglen, MD, MMM - Chief Medical Officer
Chief Medical Officer Linda Sieglen, MD, MMM, joined Mission Hospital in October 2013. Dr. Sieglen serves an instrumental role in providing effective leadership and partnering with Mission Hospital physicians to foster our strategic transformation into an integrated health care delivery system. Dr. Sieglen began her career in 1987 at Princeton health care System in New Jersey, where she most recently held the position as Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs. From 1996 to 2008, she was the Chair of the Department of Anesthesia and the President of Princeton Anesthesia Services.
Seth R. Teigen, FACHE - Chief Executive
Seth Teigen serves as the Chief Executive of Providence Mission Hospital, one of 51 hospitals in a comprehensive network that provides care across seven states from Alaska to Texas.
In this important role, Seth is responsible for driving Providence Mission’s success as the premier health care provider in South Orange County through the growth of high-quality clinical services and delivering exceptional patient experience. He oversees all aspects of acute care services at the Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach hospital campuses, as well as Providence Mission’s clinics, ambulatory centers and other associated business lines.
Seth joined Providence Mission Hospital after serving as President of Franklin and St. Francis Hospitals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which are part of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic Health system. He had operational and strategic oversight of the executive teams, quality, safety, patient satisfaction, financial performance and community engagement.
For the past two consecutive years, the Orange County Business Journal honored Seth as one of the OC 500 and a distinguished member of the 2020 Directory of Influence. In 2016, Seth was recognized as one of the 50 Rising Stars in Healthcare under 40 by Becker’s Hospital Review. Additionally, he was named to the Madison In Business Magazine “40 under 40” list, and recognized as the Wisconsin Young Healthcare Executive of the Year in 2012 by the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Seth passionately serves as a member of the Providence Mission Hospital Board of Directors, Providence Mission Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Providence Mission Surgery Center Board of Directors, Camino Health Center Board of Directors and a variety of other joint ventures through Providence Mission Hospital. He is also an engaged member of the Southern California Hospital Association, American College of Healthcare Executives, and the Healthcare Executives of Southern California chapter.
While Seth takes incredible pride in his work, he says his greatest accomplishment is his family. Seth, and his wife, Nicole, have two young boys who share his passion for golf and Wisconsin Badger sports.
