Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)

Providence Saint John's Health Center

At Saint John’s Health Center, our 18-bed Irene Dunne Guild Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is specially designed to care for high-risk and critically ill babies. If issues emerge during pregnancy or delivery, our caring staff provides some of the most advanced equipment and strategies of care available for diagnosing and treating critically ill newborns.

In order to enhance the outstanding level of care we provide to our most fragile infants, we partner with Children's Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA). Together, our maternal-fetal specialists, pediatricians, pediatric respiratory therapists and nurses collaborates with CHLA professionals to provide 24/7 in-hospital neonatologist.

Infants that require an enhanced level of care benefit from our stress-free high-tech bassinets called Giraffes. The Giraffe significantly reduces potential harm to infants because it can be converted into an incubator/isolette or table warmer at the touch of a button. Along with providing safety and comfort to infants, the Giraffe:

  • Provides a temperature-controlled environment
  • Blocks outside light and sound
  • Weighs the baby
  • Rotates 360 degrees
  • Provides a setting where surgery can be conducted, if necessary

Our technologically-advanced unit is staffed with caring professionals who have special training in newborn care. They work closely with parents in a supportive environment to determine the most appropriate course of treatment for their babies. We also acknowledge and respect each family's cultural needs and preferences by providing personalized care.

At Saint John’s, parents are involved in all aspects of their newborn’s care. Whether you’re holding, feeding, changing diapers or bathing your baby, you have 24-hour access to your child.
