When sudden and severe illnesses affect you and your family, Little Company of Mary Medical Center’s Emergency Department is ready to help 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our dedicated ER physicians, nurses and specialty staff are trained to respond to any emergency medical situation, including strokes, heart attacks, obstetric and pediatric emergencies, trauma and accidents.
The hospital has contracted with Emergency Specialist Physicians Medical Associates to provide physician services in the Emergency Department. These physicians are independent contractors, not employees of the hospital, who contract separately with health care insurers and healthcare plans. As a result, they may not be in the same networks as the hospital. If you have any questions regarding whether these physicians are covered by your insurance, you should contact your insurance provider directly. To contact the ER group contracted to our hospital, please call Phycon at 800-477-8909.
Our Medical Center is a designated Paramedic Base Station. We provide medical direction, training, and oversight to our South Bay communities, including Torrance, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and El Segundo.
In order to fulfill our community health responsibility, we are an active participant in community disaster preparedness. We make it our responsibility to provide oversight and training to several Los Angeles City and County Fire departments.
We are the first hospital in the South Bay to be certified by the Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center. We have a highly skilled and dedicated stroke team on standby around the clock, ready to immediately treat any stroke patient who comes through our doors. This team follows national standards and guidelines that significantly improve outcomes for stroke victims.
The State Department of Health Services and Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency have designated our emergency department as a STEMI Receiving Center (ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction), or heart attack treatment center.
The STEMI Receiving Team in the Emergency Department coordinates closely with local paramedics, rapidly mobilizing our Providence Coronary Catheterization Team, interventional cardiologists, and cardiothoracic surgeons to ensure the best possible outcomes.
Our Emergency Department has received Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) certification. With pediatric hospitalist physicians, board-certified physicians and nurses certified in advanced pediatric life support, our emergency department has met the rigorous pediatric emergency care standards required for this certification.
Our Emergency Department has designated pediatric rooms equipped with specialized equipment, enabling our board-certified pediatric emergency physicians to treat our young patients.
All Providence Emergency Department nurses are certified in advanced pediatric life support and receive ongoing pediatric emergency education.
