Meet Our Expert Brain and Spine Team

Our 50+ board-certified neurological specialty and subspecialty doctors make up the largest, most comprehensive neurology group in the Inland Northwest. We have deep expertise in every neurological condition, and we’re well known for handling the most complex cases in the region. That’s why community hospitals and smaller practices routinely refer their patients to us.

Why Choose Us for Your Neurological Care?

We’re known for providing our patients with the highest-quality care and treatment. We do this close to home, and with the compassion that patients with life-changing conditions deserve. But accessible, top-rated care is just one of the reasons we handle the most complex neurological cases in the region.

Our trauma care team is available 24/7 to deliver fast and thorough treatment for people experiencing a traumatic brain or spine injury or a stroke. As the region’s only Level II trauma surgery program, we also treat patients transferred to us from across the region. Our robust Telestroke program provides virtual, 24/7 care for surrounding community hospitals needing stroke specialists for their patients. We also offer the only specialty program for child neurology and neurosurgery in the Inland Northwest and are one of the largest cerebrovascular programs in the Pacific Northwest.

Our experts use the most advanced technology and treatments for precision care. One example is RAPID, an imaging software that helps neurologists determine which stroke patients are candidates for clot removal surgery. We also use robotic systems to improve the accuracy and safety of surgery and to create a less invasive experience and quicker recovery for the patient.

We take a team-based, personalized approach to care. Your doctors develop long-term relationships with you throughout – and beyond – your treatment. Depending on your condition, a range of neuroscience experts could be on your care team, from neurologists and neurosurgeons to neuroradiologists, neuropsychologists and physiatrists. Our specialists work together to create a personalized treatment plan that fits your needs and leads to the best outcomes. They also meet regularly to review complex cases, which means you’re getting the best treatment without having to visit another doctor or specialist outside the region.

If your condition is life-changing and requires long-term care, we’re here for you with compassionate, patient-centered care. We offer patient support groups for strokes and brain and spinal cord injuries to provide a supportive environment for sharing experiences and learning from others.

If you need rehabilitation, you may be referred to Providence St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Medical Center, the largest freestanding medical rehabilitation hospital in the Inland Northwest. At St. Luke’s, we integrate treatment, technology and care to help patients achieve their goals following stroke, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic issues and brain injuries. We also offer the region’s only residency program to train future doctors in rehabilitative medicine.

At Providence, we are committed to providing access to the best care to everyone in our diverse community. We respect and support the racial, ethnic, religious, gender, sexual and spiritual identities of each of our patients. We offer translation services for our non-English-speaking patients and community stroke education awareness through fairs and events. In keeping with our Mission, Providence offers financial assistance programs that provide free and low-cost care to those who are eligible.

Every patient at Providence benefits from our deep expertise across numerous neurology and neurosurgery subspecialties. We are also part of a collaborative network that includes award-winning physicians, scientists, researchers and caregivers across 51 hospitals in seven states. The power of this network is one of the reasons thousands of people choose Providence Neuroscience Institute of Spokane for their neurological care each year.

Endovascular surgery is minimally invasive surgery that uses small tubes called catheters to remove blood clots from blood vessels without the need for large incisions. During this procedure, a surgeon usually fixes damaged blood vessels and restores blood flow, which can lower your risk of heart attack or stroke.

A tumor affecting the brain, spine or nervous system raises urgent, difficult questions — and you deserve answers from experts who treat these conditions every day. Our Neuro-Oncology team provides advanced, comprehensive care for adult patients with primary or metastatic central nervous system (CNS) tumors. From diagnosis through treatment and recovery, we walk alongside you and your loved ones every step of the way.

After a stroke, injury or illness affecting the nervous system, relearning everyday skills takes time, patience and expert support. Our Neurological Rehabilitation program is designed to help you regain function, ease symptoms and improve your overall well-being. A physician-supervised team of therapists and specialists works with you on movement, thinking, communication and daily living — building a plan around your unique needs. When you're facing symptoms like seizures, headaches or memory changes, our neurology team is here to help. We diagnose and treat conditions of the brain, spine and nervous system, so you can get answers and the care that's right for you.

Facing a neurological condition can feel overwhelming — but you don't have to navigate it alone. Our team of specially trained neurology, neurosurgery and stroke experts focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders that affect the nervous system, including the brain, cerebrovascular system, spine and peripheral nerves. This multidisciplinary team combines leading-edge research and innovative techniques to deliver comprehensive, personalized care for a wide range of neurological conditions — treating the whole person, mind, body and spirit.

Considering surgery on your brain or spine is a big step, and you deserve a team with deep expertise and genuine care. Neurosurgery is one of the most rapidly advancing areas of medicine, and here you benefit from leading-edge diagnostics, minimally invasive techniques, implantable medical devices and clinical research. Our neurosurgeons receive the region's most current and comprehensive procedures to change the course of disease and heal from traumatic injuries. Working closely with your wider care team, we prioritize your safety, comfort and dignity at every stage.

When your child has a neurological concern, you want specialists who understand both the condition and the child. Children with neurological problems deserve special treatment — and that's exactly what they get here. Our pediatric neuroscience specialists diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of conditions affecting the developing brain, spine and nervous system, from seizures to headaches to developmental concerns. We partner closely with you and your family to make sure your child gets the care they need to thrive, with support for the whole family along the way.

If your child needs surgical care for the brain, spine or nervous system, our pediatric neurosurgery specialists provide it with compassion and expertise — treating head and spinal trauma, tumors, hydrocephalus and malformations.

Back and neck problems can affect nearly everything you do — work, sleep, time with the people you love. Our spine care team is here to help you find relief and get moving again. We diagnose, treat and manage a wide range of spine conditions, guiding you toward the least invasive treatment with the highest chance of success. Whenever possible, we recommend nonsurgical options before exploring surgery. Working together, our specialists design a personalized plan around your symptoms and goals — so you can get back to the activities that matter most.

If back or neck pain hasn't improved with other treatments, spine surgery may be the next step toward relief — and you want it done by experts you trust. Our spine surgeons treat a variety of conditions, using both traditional and minimally invasive approaches to resolve spinal issues. We have the expertise to perform even complex spinal reconstruction, ensuring no portion of the spine is out of reach. Throughout your care, we take time to explain your options clearly, so you can make confident decisions and focus on recovery.

In a stroke, every minute matters — and fast, expert care can change everything about your recovery. To combat stroke and its effects, we provide evidence-based, comprehensive care from preventive education and screenings to diagnosis, immediate intervention, management and rehabilitation. Our multidisciplinary team of stroke clinicians rapidly assesses and treats patients with the latest technologies, working together toward the goal of restoring your function and quality of life. From your first moments of care through rehabilitation, we're with you and your loved ones at every step.

When a stroke happens, expert help can't wait — and it shouldn't depend on where you live. Our Telestroke program connects you and your local care team to stroke specialists in real time, using secure video technology to guide rapid diagnosis and treatment. That means fast access to advanced stroke expertise, even when a specialist isn't physically at your bedside. By bringing the right knowledge to the right place at the right moment, we help improve your chances of recovery — 24/7 access to specialized care, close to home.
