Construction To Begin on Pediatric Catheterization Lab
SPOKANE, Wash. — Construction will begin in December 2025 on a dedicated pediatric catheterization lab at Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital — an achievement made possible by the generosity of donors to the Follow Your Heart campaign.
Thanks to their support and the commitment of our caregivers, the campaign reached its ambitious $10 million goal in August, marking the largest fundraising effort in our foundation’s history.
More than 90% of donors were inspired by personal experiences with our care teams — from physicians and nurses to chaplains and environmental services staff. Their gratitude reflects the extraordinary care and compassion provided every day.
The new pediatric space will help us deliver even better care by reducing wait times, offering advanced technology for our smallest patients and ensuring a climate-controlled environment that minimizes radiation exposure. These enhancements will allow for life-changing interventions for children at every stage.
Patients like baby Abigail will benefit from the state-of-the-art cath lab. After her heart complications were discovered before birth, Abigail underwent her first catheterization procedure at just 4 days old, giving her the strength to undergo open-heart surgery at 18 days old. The less invasive catheterization helped Abigail grow stronger and beat incredible odds — a testament to the skill and dedication of her care team.
Catheterization procedures offer safer, more effective treatment options for children with serious cardiac conditions, and our caregivers ensure the best possible outcomes. With donor support, we are building a space that makes this care more intentional, efficient and hopeful for families like Abigail’s.
Joe and Cora Kelly, Abigail’s parents, said it best: “Knowing that Abigail’s care team has the education, patience, compassion and skills to support us was what kept our spirits up. We are truly fortunate to have Providence Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital as a trusted partner in Abigail’s heart journey.”
As we look ahead to the next phase — including a new waiting area, covered walkway and renovated spaces — we take pride in what we are building together. Because of you, and because of our donors, every child who enters our doors has a brighter future.
