Mission Hospital is a state-of-the art, 523-bed an acute care hospital in Mission Viejo, California. As a verified adult and pediatric Level II Trauma Center, Mission Hospital provides a full range of specialty health care services with highly skilled teams treating a multitude of complex conditions. Services include a full range of expertise in cardiovascular, neuroscience and spine, orthopedics, cancer care, women’s services, mental health & wellness, and a variety of other specialty services. Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach (MHLB) provides South Orange County coastal communities with 24-hour emergency and intensive care as well as medical-surgical/telemetry services, orthopedics, general and GI surgery. CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital is a 48-bed facility that is the area’s only dedicated pediatric hospital.

Fully accredited by The Joint Commission and designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence, Mission Hospital is highly recognized for its high quality of care, evidenced through various healthcare quality benchmarks. Mission Hospital was founded in Mission Viejo in 1971 by a group of proactive, physicians who realized the need for accessible, quality medical care to serve the growing community. Over the decades, Mission Hospital has continued to develop new programs and services to meet the community’s ever changing needs. In 1993, Mission Hospital partnered with CHOC Children’s to provide pediatric services and a year later, became a member of the St. Joseph Health, which is a nonprofit Catholic health care ministry founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange. In 2009, Mission Hospital expanded its geographic footprint to include South Orange County’s coast line by acquiring Mission Hospital Laguna Beach.

Sisters of St. Joseph - A Legacy of Caring

St. Joseph Health is a ministry sponsored by the St. Joseph Health Ministry, who originated in 17th century France with the unique vision of a Jesuit priest named Jean-Pierre Médaille. He visualized an order of religious women who would venture out into the community, seek out "the dear neighbors" and minister to their needs.

In 1912, a small contingent of the Sisters of St. Joseph came to Eureka, California, to establish a school. With the influenza epidemic of 1918, the Sisters temporarily abandoned their education efforts to care for the sick. They realized the small community desperately needed a hospital. In 1920, the Sisters opened St. Joseph Hospital of Eureka.

Today the Sisters continue their work through the sponsorship of acute care hospitals, home health care, rehabilitation programs, primary care clinics and many community outreach and wellness programs. In each community we touch, we reach out to care for the poor and vulnerable.

Executive Team

Michael Beck - Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer of Mission Hospital Laguna Beach

Michael Beck serves as the Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of Mission Hospital Laguna Beach. In this role, Beck is responsible for the overall planning, development, coordination, implementation and management of all administrative functions, services and business development for the Laguna Beach campus. He will ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective patient care consistent with the mission and values of Mission Hospital, resulting in patient care at Laguna Beach reaching the highest levels of quality and service.

Terri Covert - Vice President, Human Resources

Terri Covert has been with Mission Hospital since 2002, where she came from St. Joseph Hospital. From the moment she joined Mission Hospital, Covert’s steady judgment and passionate advocacy for the dignity and development of our staff has had a lasting, positive impact on the culture at Mission Hospital. Covert’s responsibilities include the HR staff, Occupational Health and HR operations, as well as the primary liaison with the health system HR team.

Jennifer Cord, RN, DNP, NE-BC - Chief Nursing Officer

Jennifer Cord joined Mission Hospital in November 2017 as the Chief Nursing Officer. Cord is responsible for organizing, planning, directing and evaluating Mission Hospital nursing services across both the Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach campuses. As a member of the Executive Team, she provides leadership and actively guides the patient care and nursing teams in order to achieve the organizational mission and strategic goals as well as to sustain ANCC Magnet Designation through a continuous commitment to meet the Magnet concepts and ANA Nursing Administration Scope and Standards of Practice.

Lauren Dwinell, MD - Vice President, Patient Flow

Dr. Lauren Dwinell has been part of the Mission Hospital medical staff since 2002, serving in a variety of leadership position, including Co-Chair of the Women’s and Infant clinical institute and Chief of Staff. Dr. Dwinell now serves as Vice President of Patient Flow where her responsibilities include the management how our patients move throughout all areas of the hospital. Dr. Dwinell has oversight to Care Management and TeleTracking, our patient placement and tracking application. In her Vice President of Patient Flow capacity, Dr. Dwinell will ensure our patients transitions throughout the hospital will be as seamless and as timely as possible.

Sister Martha Ann Fitzpatrick - Vice President, Advocacy & Ministry Formation

For more than 60 years, Sister Martha Ann Fitzpatrick, a member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, Congregation of St. Joseph (CSJ), has provided both professional and spiritual guidance for the health and well-being of the communities she has served. She came to Mission Hospital in 1994 when it was acquired by the St. Joseph Health. Initially serving as the hospital’s Vice President of Sponsorship, Sister Fitzpatrick has played an integral role in the formation of Mission Hospital’s healthcare ministry for nearly 15 years. She is responsible for the advocacy of health issues in the community the hospital serves. She also serves as a faculty member of Mission and Mentoring a system-wide program that aims to develop and form employees to carry on the mission and values of the Catholic health ministry.

Mark Jablonski - Interim Vice President, Mission Integration

The Vice President, Mission Integration is responsible for integrating the mission and values of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange into the hospital’s daily operations and providing oversight to improve the health and quality of life within the community.

John D. Miller - Chief Development Officer

John Miller serves as the Chief Development Officer for the Mission Hospital Foundation leading the hospital’s fundraising efforts to meet the diverse health care needs of the south Orange County community.

Evelyn Schlosser, MPH, MA, RN, CPHQ, CPPS - Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety

Evelyn Schlosser comes to Mission Hospital with a rich background in quality and safety. Schlosser combines both her registered nurse knowledge, black belt six sigma certification and over 20 years of quality leadership experience to ensure Mission Hospital has the highest quality standards to ensure our patients are treated in the safest environment possible. As Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety, she is responsible for developing our Patient Safety and Performance Improvement programs, overseeing the effectiveness of our Infection Prevention and Regulatory Compliance programs, and managing our clinical quality and outcomes.

Linda Sieglen, MD, MMM - Chief Medical Officer

Chief Medical Officer Linda Sieglen, MD, MMM, joined Mission Hospital in October 2013. Dr. Sieglen serves an instrumental role in providing effective leadership and partnering with Mission Hospital physicians to foster our strategic transformation into an integrated health care delivery system. Dr. Sieglen began her career in 1987 at Princeton health care System in New Jersey, where she most recently held the position as Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs. From 1996 to 2008, she was the Chair of the Department of Anesthesia and the President of Princeton Anesthesia Services.

Terry Wooten, MHA - Vice President of Operations – Support Services

Terry Wooten serves as Vice President of Operations – Support Services reporting directly to the Chief Executive. Wooten is responsible for overall planning, development, coordination, implementation, and management of all administrative functions, services, and related business development activities. He is focused on ensuring high levels of customer service, strong physician partnerships and an engaged workforce in the delivery of care and services. Over the last 20 years, Wooten has held a variety of roles within the St. Joseph Health System most recently as Vice President of Clinical Supply Chain for St. Joseph Health.

We know you come to Providence because you trust the care we provide. We want you to know our mission for your good health and safety is a top priority. Joint Commission standards deal with organizational quality of care issues and patient safety and the safety of the environment in which care is provided. Any individual believing that he or she has concerns regarding patient safety or quality of care concerns at Providence Health & Services that the hospital has not addressed appropriately may contact The Joint Commission.

If your issue remains unresolved, you have the right to:

When submitting a complaint to the Joint Commission about an accredited organization, you may either provide your name and contact information or submit your complaint anonymously. Providing your name and contact information enables the Joint Commission to inform you about the actions taken in response to your complaint, and also to contact you should additional information be needed. It is the Joint Commission's policy to treat your name as confidential information and not to disclose it to any other party. However, it may be necessary to share the complaint with Providence Health & Services in the course of a complaint investigation.

Joint Commission policy forbids an accredited organization from taking retaliatory actions against employees for having reported a patient safety or quality of care concern to the Joint Commission.
