Pelvic Prolapse Repair

Pelvic organ prolapse is a condition that causes one or more pelvic organs, such as the bladder or uterus, to slip out of its normal position due to weak pelvic muscles. It’s a condition that affects as many as one in three women. In Southern Oregon, only Providence Medford Medical Center offers the gold standard of care: robotic-assisted minimally invasive sacrocolpopexy (prolapse repair).

The da Vinci robotic system gives our surgeons a three-dimensional, magnified view of the internal structures, which allows for:

  • Better placement of supportive mesh, reducing prolapse recurrence
  • More long-lasting repair
  • Our urogynecology team is led by two of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the state. These doctors are part of a comprehensive team that is dedicated to getting women diagnosed and into treatment quickly so they can get better fast.

Surgeons must be certified to use the da Vinci® Surgical System. Learn more about our robotic-certified urogynecological surgeon in Southern Oregon.

Our surgeons specialize in these robotic procedures:

This is the most common robotic surgery that our urogynecologic surgeons perform. It involves placing a mesh sling inside the body to hold the pelvic organs in place. With robotic-assisted surgery, patients typically can go home the next day and resume most of their normal activities within two weeks.

This procedure provides support for the uterus or the top of the vagina after a hysterectomy. It is similar to sacrocolpopexy, except that instead of using mesh to support the prolapsed uterus or vagina, surgeons attach the organ to the strong surrounding ligaments for support.

With some of the more conventional prolapse-repair procedures, recurrence is fairly common. Because of their expertise in robotic-assisted repair, our surgical team is called often to correct unsuccessful procedures and provide more long-lasting results.
