With a holistic approach to care, the Bariatric Wellness Center supports patients through long-term physical, nutritional, emotional and spiritual well-being. We focus on treating patients completely – before, during, and after weight loss surgery.

Accreditations and Awards

With a devotion to quality care that meets the needs of every patient, the Bariatric Wellness Center has been designated as an accredited program for bariatric surgery by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) established guidelines for physicians in evaluating the necessity for bariatric surgery.

The NIH standards for bariatric surgery state that the candidate should express the following:

  • Be approximately 100 or more pounds over ideal body weight
  • Possess a body mass index (BMI) greater than 40, or a BMI greater than 35 when pre-existing co-morbidities such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea or hypertension are present
  • Show weight-induced problems and restrictions in mobility related to work and performance of family responsibilities

Jessica's story

Jessica knew that her health had been heading in the wrong direction. Lap Band surgery, combined with a healthy lifestyle, helped her lose 75 pounds. She couldn’t run a mile before surgery, but now she clocks a few miles several times a week.

You are invited to attend any of our three support groups. Registration is not required and attendance is free. You are always welcome to bring a friend or family member.

All groups meet at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Jaromir Strizka Conference Room 1. Please check with the information desk in case the meeting room has changed.
