Magnet Designation
For the fifth consecutive time, St. Joseph Hospital has achieved Magnet® designation, earning the highly prestigious Magnet Recognition® with Distinction from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). St. Joseph Hospital is the first hospital within Providence and was one of only four hospitals in California at the time to receive Magnet® Recognition with Distinction—an honor that reflects sustained excellence in nursing practice, leadership and patient care.
The Magnet Recognition Program identifies health care organizations worldwide where nursing leaders align strategic goals to elevate the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Research consistently shows that Magnet-designated hospitals deliver higher patient satisfaction, lower mortality rates, and stronger nurse retention.
During its site visit, the Magnet appraisal team highlighted several areas of distinction, including:
- High-quality, evidence-based nursing practices that enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
- A strong culture of interdisciplinary collaboration and shared decision-making.
- Exceptional support for professional development, advancement, and nursing education.
- Demonstrated leadership in diversity, equity, and inclusion across practice and hiring.
Fewer than one percent of hospitals nationwide have achieved Magnet® designation five times—a testament to the strength of St. Joseph Hospital’s nursing leadership, practice environment, and measurable outcomes. This recognition places St. Joseph Hospital among the most accomplished health care organizations in the nation. Magnet® designation is widely regarded as the gold standard for nursing excellence, reflecting superior patient outcomes, professional growth opportunities, and a culture that empowers nurses at every level.
