Getting Started

To schedule therapy services, you'll need a referral from your primary care provider. Talk with your doctor about your symptoms, concerns, or goals, and they can help determine whether therapy is right for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, a referral from a primary care provider is needed to see a physical therapist.

Several types of therapists and rehabilitation specialists may be involved in your care:

  • Physiatrist: a doctor who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and will manage your rehabilitation care. This includes coordinating care with other doctors, therapists and practitioners.
  • Occupational therapist: focuses on helping you do activities of daily living, including tasks at home and work
  • Physical therapist: focuses on improving your strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and mobility
  • Recreational therapist: focuses on your quality of life, hobbies and interests as part of your recovery plan
  • Speech-language pathologist: helps improve speech, communication, cognition and swallowing

The initial visit takes a little longer than the subsequent visits due to the paperwork that you need to fill out, in addition to the completion of the assessment process. Appointments are usually between 40 and 60 minutes.

Each physical therapy session is designed around you. Your therapist will talk with you about your goals, check how you move and note any pain or limits. You’ll then work through guided exercises – like strengthening, stretching, balance or movements – with hands-on support and guidance to help you improve between visits.

Depending on availability, you may work with more than one physical therapist during your course of treatment.

We will make every attempt to schedule you with the therapist you prefer. However, there may be times when a different physical therapist or physical therapist assistant will treat you in order to accommodate your schedule. All of our physical therapists and physical therapist assistants are fully licensed and/or certified and are committed to delivering high-quality care.

We highly recommend you bring comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing or athletic wear. Your clothes should also allow us to evaluate your area of injury, so please dress accordingly. As for footwear, we suggest comfortable, closed-toe shoes, preferably sneakers. If you have any questions, please contact us prior to your first appointment.

Generally, most insurance companies cover rehabilitation services. We recommend that you call the member services or benefits number listed on your insurance card to verify your coverage before you start therapy. If you do not carry insurance, self-pay (cash) payment plans are available.

We do our best to minimize your discomfort. Occasionally when you are first moving in ways you haven’t moved in a while, you may experience an increase in discomfort. Most of the time this is a normal response, but please let your therapist know that this has happened, so they can adapt your program if needed.

If you have a preferred therapist, you may request to see them when scheduling your appointment. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request, though availability may vary.

All of our therapists are highly qualified professionals who are committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care. If your preferred therapist is unavailable, we’ll work with you to find another member of our team who is well suited to meet your needs and treatment goals.

After your provider submits a referral, our team will review and process it, which may take a few business days. Once processing is complete, call 907-486-9515  and we will help schedule your appointment.
