Support Groups at Mission Hospital

Mission Hospital offers a variety of support groups for patients and their families at both campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach. There is no charge for the following groups. For more information, please call 877-227-3457 unless otherwise noted.

  • Cancer

    All cancer support groups take place at The Leonard Cancer Institute unless otherwise noted:

    A Step at a Time: Breast Cancer Support Group

    Second and fourth Monday of every month: 6-8 p.m.
    For women living with breast cancer. Find strength and hope with other survivors before, during, and after your treatment.

    Needle While You Work

    First Monday of every month: 10-11 a.m.
    Join other knitters in making hats, scarves and blankets for women undergoing chemotherapy, and for breast cancer awareness fundraising.

    Our Journey Together

    Second and fourth Tuesday of every month: 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
    This group supports individuals with recurrent/metastatic breast cancer.  

    Yoga for Women Living with Cancer

    Tuesdays: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
    Located at Mission Conference Center: 26726 Crown Valley, 1st Floor, Mission Viejo
    Yoga is a gentle way to exercise and heal the body and mind. Boost your energy and build strength, awareness and flexibility through stretching, breathing and sound. Bring a mat or towel and water.

    Breastfeeding Support Group for New Moms

    Wednesdays: 1-3 p.m.
    For new moms who’ve delivered at Mission Hospital with newborns up to 12 weeks of age. A board certified lactation consultant nurse shares expert advice and assists with basic breastfeeding challenges, positioning and latch. Weight checks are available. No other children, please.

    Healing Hearts

    First and third Monday of every month: 7-9 p.m.
    An ongoing support group for families who have experienced the death of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death.

    Postpartum Emotional Wellness Support Group

    Now virtual using Microsoft Teams. Every Wednesday 10-11am. No fee.
    Depression occurring within a year of childbirth may be postpartum depression. Help is available for this very real and oftentimes disabling illness. This ongoing support group is for moms having unexpected feelings of anxiety, sadness, isolation and depression following birth. Facilitated by a registered nurse certified in Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders through Postpartum Support International.     Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Therapist

    Available for one-on-one counseling. Call 949-324-2133 for scheduling.

    Prenatal Yoga

    Wednesdays, 6-7 p.m.
    Located at the Mission Conference Center: 26726 Crown Valley Pkwy, First floor, Mission Viejo
    Focusing on body, mind and spirit, this prenatal yoga class is designed to accommodate your body’s changing needs during pregnancy. Poses focus on increasing strength and flexibility while incorporating breathing and relaxation techniques. Please wear comfortable clothing (gym wear), bring a yoga mat or towel and water. No fee or registration required.

    Healthy Heart and Lifestyle Series

    Wednesdays: 10 a.m.
    CardioPulmonary Rehab Center

    An educational series designed to help you learn the basics for developing a healthy lifestyle. Topics include modifying behaviors, how the heart works, risk factor modification, diabetes updates, exercise/activity guidelines, stress management techniques and nutritional information. You are welcome to come to individual classes, although the entire series is highly recommended.

    Mended Hearts

    Third Wednesday of each month: 7-8:30 p.m.

    A national group for patients and families who have had cardiac events. Monthly speakers on various topics.

    A Gift of Heart

    Mondays: 7-8:30 p.m.

    For patients and families who have had or are waiting for organ transplants.

    Women's Heart Support Group

    Second Wednesday of every month: 6:30-8 p.m.

    Mission Conference Center

    Monthly support group dedicated to women who have heart disease. If you have experienced a heart attack, bypass surgery, angioplasty, valve replacement, or have an arrhythmia, pacemaker or stent, this support group is for you. In a caring environment, women with heart disease have the opportunity to share their stories, support each other and heal together. Women at high risk for heart disease are also welcome.

    PREP — Pulmonary Support Group

    Third Wednesday of each month: 7-8:30 p.m.

    Support group for patients with chronic lung disease and their families.

    Heart Rhythm and Device Series

    Held quarterly, second Tuesday of the month: 6-7 p.m.

    Learn more about your abnormal heart rhythm, such as atrial fibrillation and/or implanted device such as pacemaker or internal cardiac defibrillator.

    Stroke Support Group

    Wednesdays: 1-3 p.m.
    Feb. 26, Apr. 22

    For stroke survivors and loved ones to build and create meaningful lives after a stroke. Each meeting features an educational discussion with health care providers and therapeutic activities like gardening and painting. To register call 949-364-1400, ext 6245.

  • Grief

    Living Life Again

    Tuesdays: 10-11:30 a.m.
    Mar. 3 - May 10

    10-week program at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach informs and assists individuals living with loss. A group facilitator leads weekly discussions to provide insight about the grief process, allowing individuals to express their feelings in an open and safe environment.
