CORE’s Equity Commitment Statement

At the Providence Centers for Outcomes Research & Education (CORE), we recognize that:

  • Health inequities are systemic, resulting from systems and policies designed by the dominant culture to serve the dominant culture
  • Addressing health inequities requires shifting away from paternalistic, top-down approaches that persist within many aspects of society and its systems
  • Different forms of oppression often intersect and overlap, leading to more severe and complex forms of discrimination and marginalization
  • Research has a history of causing harm, despite its potential for good
  • Understanding the harms caused by systemic and structural racism is essential to realizing CORE’s vision for a healthier and more equitable world

We are committed to:

  • Approaching our work with humility, intentionality, and a dedication to ongoing learning and self-evaluation
  • Listening to and prioritizing diverse voices, including those most burdened by racialized systems of oppression
  • Continually striving to recognize, reconcile, and rectify historical and contemporary injustices
  • Contributing to positive change through collaboration with systems, communities, and a wide range of partners
  • Developing meaningful partnerships centered on individuals and communities

We support these commitments in many ways, such as:

  • Taking a structured, intentional, and ongoing approach to addressing inequities both within and outside of our organization
  • Providing ongoing opportunities for staff to participate in equity education and training
  • Prioritizing projects and partnerships that seek to advance health equity and social justice
  • Actively partnering with communities most impacted by inequities to identify their priorities and incorporate their wisdom and expertise into our work
  • Recognizing and honoring the contributions of study participants and our partners by committing to fair compensation and meaningful investments
  • Examining bias in how we collect, analyze, present, and use data
  • Ensuring our data collection processes are accessible and responsive to the widest possible range of participants
  • Broadly disseminating our findings and resources to enable others to utilize and build upon our work
