If you or a loved one are trying to manage a serious illness, St. Jude Medical Center offers palliative care that provides unique support to patients in their time of need. Our goal is to assist patients through treatment with comfort and empathy.
Our multidisciplinary palliative care team specializes in helping patients successfully manage symptoms—such as pain or shortness of breath—while also helping you better understand your condition and choices for medical care. We focus on what’s important to you and your family, from helping improve tolerance for treatment to maximizing day-to-day functioning.
Palliative care patients remain under their doctor’s care and are often undergoing active treatment. Our team simply provides another layer of expert support while bringing a fresh perspective to your symptoms. We anticipate, manage and proactively treat debilitating symptoms, such as:
- Anxiety and depression
- Difficulty sleeping
- Nausea and loss of appetite
- Shortness of breath
- Severe fatigue
We can help at any stage of a serious illness, whether you are recently diagnosed, currently undergoing treatment, or approaching the limits of what medical management can provide. Some of the conditions that can benefit from palliative care include:
- Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
- Alzheimer's or dementia
- Congestive heart failure (CHF) or other chronic cardiac conditions
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Kidney failure
- Parkinson's Disease
