You can expect a comfortable and relaxing environment. Our friendly staff will guide you through the process.
- Preparation: We'll provide instructions on how to prepare, such as avoiding caffeine and certain medications.
- Check-in: Arrive on time. You'll be greeted and directed to our Sleep Center. A sleep technologist will guide you through the setup and ensure your comfort.
- Sleep study: You'll stay in a private room while we monitor your sleep patterns and breathing. The technologist will be available to address any concerns.
- Results and recommendations: After the study, we'll analyze the data and provide personalized recommendations. A detailed report will be sent to your primary care physician for follow-up.
Here are some tips to help you prepare for your overnight sleep study:
- Avoid caffeine and stimulants: Try to avoid caffeine and other stimulants in the hours leading up to your sleep study to help you relax and fall asleep more easily.
- Comfortable clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing or bring your pajamas to change into. This will help you feel more relaxed and make it easier for our technicians to attach the monitoring equipment.
- Bring your sleep essentials: Don't forget to bring any essentials you might need for the night, such as toiletries, pajamas, and any medications you take regularly.
- Relax and unwind: Sleeping away from home can be challenging. Try to relax and unwind before bedtime. Avoid screens and stimulating activities that could interfere with your ability to fall asleep.
Here are some tips to help prepare your child for a sleep study:
- Explain simply: Tell your child what a sleep study is in terms they can understand. For example, "We're going to a special place where doctors will help us understand how you sleep. It's like a sleepover with special equipment."
- Familiarize with equipment: Show pictures or videos of the sleep study equipment and explain how it works. Assure your child that the sensors are gentle and won't cause any pain.
- Practice at home: Create a playful atmosphere at home where you pretend to do a sleep study. Use stickers or small pieces of tape to mimic the sensors. This can help your child feel more comfortable and confident.
- Bring comfort items: Allow your child to bring their favorite comfort items, such as a stuffed animal, blanket, or special toy. These familiar items can provide a sense of security and comfort.
- Stay positive and calm: Maintain a positive and calm demeanor throughout the preparation and appointment. Offer encouragement and praise for your child's cooperation and bravery. Reassure them that you'll be nearby and that the sleep technologists are there to help.
