Primary care is the foundation of good health. The primary care providers (PCPs) at Facey Medical Group are committed to providing personalized care by focusing not simply on treatment but on prevention, health education and the well-being of the whole family. It’s a relationship that goes beyond prescriptions and covers many health issues important to us all. Your PCP is your resource for all health care decisions because they know you best.

A PCP can specialize in family medicine, internal medicine or pediatrics. A family medicine doctor provides continuing, comprehensive health care for your entire family, from newborns to grandparents. Internal medicine specialists focus on adult medicine and specialize in the prevention and treatment of adult illness, including: diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol problems, arthritis and acute problems such as bronchitis and pneumonia. Pediatricians focus on the health needs of children and adolescents, guiding them as they grow.

  • Comprehensive annual physicals
  • Vaccinations
  • Sports physicals
  • Preventive and wellness care
  • Chronic disease monitoring
  • Pediatric care (family medicine providers only)
  • Care of routine medical conditions
  • Women’s health concerns
  • Men’s health concerns
  • Management of allergy, asthma, and skin conditions
  • Treatment of acute illness and injuries
  • Tobacco cessation

If you are a member of an HMO insurance plan, you’re required to choose a PCP. It might be helpful for you to think of a PCP as the conductor of a large orchestra: There are many parts needed to create harmony and they bring those parts together. Your PCP manages and coordinates all of your health care needs. It is their job to make responsible, educated decisions about your treatment options. Your PCP may call upon other services and specialists to support your medical needs if they cannot provide such services to you themselves. We call this managed care because while your PCP may not provide all of the services to you, they are the ones making sure that you receive the care that you need.

You may find it helpful to prepare a list of questions or concerns for your first visit with your PCP. It’s a good idea to include a list of medications and supplements that you are currently taking. Some people find it’s easier to bring in all of their medications and supplements in their original bottles. If the doctor’s office has sent you any paperwork, please complete it and bring it to your appointment.

As a patient of Facey Medical Group, you are free to select any of our family medicine, internal medicine or pediatric specialists as your PCP. You will probably want to choose a doctor at the Facey location which is most convenient for you and your family. If you need help with picking your PCP, you can browse our physician directory online or call your preferred office to learn which doctors are currently accepting new patients.

Many patients have questions about the difference between a “health maintenance,” "wellness exam” or “preventive care” appointment and a routine office visit. While routine office visits usually have a co-payment or share of cost, the Affordable Care Act requires insurance companies to cover preventive care services 100%. It is important to know that health maintenance and preventive care exams are completely covered by your health insurance as long as only preventive health topics are discussed and only recommended screening tests are performed.

This exam is prevention focused, not problem focused. Do not save up all of your health concerns for your routine preventive exam. If you have a current chronic condition, you may need other diagnostic visits & services during the year. If you bring up health problems (like a skin rash) during a routine preventive exam that your care team needs to address, understand that you may have a charge related to the treatment of that problem. In most cases, your office visit will no longer be considered preventive care by your health insurance and we will bill the appointment as a routine office visit.

After-hours care

Kids don’t get sick according to a set schedule and we know that parents' schedules can be pretty challenging as well. That’s why in addition to Facey Immediate Care, most offices offer extended in-person and telehealth appointment hours on select days.

If you need after-hours care, please call your preferred Facey office and explain the medical condition to help determine if you should schedule an appointment or go directly to urgent/immediate care. Patients can schedule an after-hours appointment at any available location, though the pediatrician seeing patients may not be your child's regular doctor. To ensure the best care possible, you should always try to see your child’s regular pediatrician for chronic and routine health problems.

As a reminder, you should always call 911 for life-threatening illnesses.

Contact Radiology: 661-250-5205

Radiology, or medical imaging,  is used to help diagnose conditions and diseases within the body. At Facey, we utilize digital radiology systems which are both better for the environment and provide faster results to our radiologists for review. They also emit less radiation than traditional film radiology systems and reduce the cost of care.

Radiology technologists are responsible for performing the various radiology exams. They get formal training in various types of programs, lasting from one to four years. They may have more study or training to specialize in a certain area, such as ultrasound. Radiology technologists are certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

Image readings are performed by independent contracted radiologists.

Mammography

One woman in eight will get breast cancer in her lifetime. The statistics are hard to ignore. And one in three women over the age of 40 will be diagnosed with a breast health concern.

Mammograms use low energy X-rays to examine the breast as a diagnostic and screening tool to detect the early presence of breast cancer. Mammograms are recommended annually for women age 45 to 54. Women 55 and older can switch to mammograms every two years, or continue yearly screening.

98 percent of breast cancer patients survive the disease when diagnosed early. 85 percent of breast cancers occur in women with no family history. Starting at age 40, women should talk to their doctor about when to start screening mammograms. Doctors agree that early detection is the best defense against breast cancer. Successful treatment and survival rates for breast cancer are dramatically affected by early detection of breast cancer. If breast cancer is found early, before it has spread to lymph nodes, the five-year survival rate is almost 100%.

We understand there are many different screening recommendations. This can be confusing. If you are at average risk for breast cancer, talk with your health care provider to determine what‘s best for you.

For women who aren’t having any breast cancer symptoms, we offer a screening mammogram, an X-ray test of the breasts (mammary glands) used to screen for breast problems, such as a lump, and whether a lump is fluid-filled (a cyst) or a solid mass.

The goal of this procedure is early detection. Due to the increase in women getting screening mammograms, more and more breast cancers are being caught at the earliest, most treatable stages. If you’re scheduled for a screening mammogram but develop a symptom, please let the technologist know before the start of your exam.

Doctor referrals are not required for mammograms. Before scheduling a mammogram, we recommend that you speak with your doctor if you've experienced any recent problems or abnormalities concerning your breasts. If this is your first mammogram with us, collect prior mammograms and make them available for your radiologist, if possible, at the time of the current exam.

Some Facey locations offer 3-D mammography, also known as tomosynthesis, which detects 41% more invasive breast cancers and reduces false positives (false alarms) by up to 40%.

With tomosynthesis, an X-ray beam sweeps through the breast in a slight arc and takes pictures of multiple “slices” of breast tissues. A radiologist then looks through the series of images. Digital tomosynthesis allows the detection of small abnormalities that may be hidden by normal breast tissue. It also allows the radiologist to tell the difference between a clump of normal tissue and a true mass.

Most insurance plans cover both types of screening, but it is advisable to confirm this with your health plan before your appointment.

Ultrasound

Ultrasound delivers high-frequency sound waves and the echoes that bounce of body tissue form images of the inner structure of the body. This non-invasive procedure is one of the most widely used diagnostic procedures in modern medicine.

Most people are familiar with how an ultrasound shows a developing baby in the womb, but ultrasound can also help determine a person's risk of heart attack or problems in the abdomen or reproductive system.

Since there are several different types of ultrasound exams, talk with your doctor to understand how to best prepare for your exam.
