  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Protected PCI for non-surgical patients
  • Renal denervation for the treatment of resistant hypertension
  • Structural heart and valve therapies

We are also among the first to incorporate AI technology into cardiovascular planning and care – improving precision and safety in complex interventions.

Providence is a leading provider of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) services among all national community hospitals – delivering life-saving support to critically ill heart and lung patients.

By adding more dedicated physicians to the electrophysiology program, Providence is focused on bringing next-generation technology to treat patients with a wide range of heart conditions – from cardiac arrest to arrhythmia to heart failure – throughout Orange County.

This includes pulsed field ablation (PFA) – the newest cardiac ablation procedure for AFib.

Leadless pacemaker implantation is helpful for patients with small frames or poor vasculature. The newest devices are implanted directly into the heart through a minimally invasive procedure, reducing recovery periods and minimizing patients’ exposure to potential lead and pocket-related complications.

Discover how Providence St. Joseph Hospital Orange was a leader in advancing leadless pacemaker technology.

Previously, mitral valve disorder could only be treated with valve repair or replacement, which required an open-heart procedure – meaning patients had longer hospital stays and recovery times.

The new MitraClip procedure takes about an hour, and patients typically go home after one night in the hospital. They can resume normal activities, like walking, right away. Only heavy lifting needs to be avoided for about a week.

Providence uses AI-based modeling to plan complex procedures like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and ensure advanced care coordination for patients diagnosed with aortic stenosis. Led by experienced interventional cardiologists and surgeons, it’s also supported by dedicated nurse navigators to ensure seamless, coordinated care.

Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) for AFib

Providence also performs PFA, the newest cardiac ablation procedure for AFib. PFA is a new option for first-time ablation candidates or patients who haven’t found success with other treatments, including prior ablation.

Our cardiac experts are PFA leaders because this procedure provides groundbreaking advantages for our patients:

  • Shorter treatment time. PFA takes about 30 minutes, compared to the four or five hours for standard ablations. The procedure is done with less anesthesia and most patients go home a few hours after the procedure.
  • Better efficacy. PFA is safer and more effective at stopping AFib because the procedure better isolates specific heart cells.
  • Faster recovery times. PFA doesn’t damage surrounding tissue, so patients recover more quickly.
  • Shorter scheduling times. Because the procedure is much shorter than standard ablations, we can schedule patients undergoing PFA more frequently.

PFA is a new option for patients who didn’t find success with other treatments that used heat or cold energy. This innovative technique uses pulsed electrical fields to selectively disable the abnormal heart cells causing arrythmias.

Cardiac ablation can reduce arrhythmia symptoms, including:

  • Chest pain
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Heart palpitations
  • Shortness of breath

With fewer or reduced symptoms, you can increase your physical activity and enjoy a better quality of life. Cardiac ablation can also help lessen your risk of stroke, heart attack or heart failure and potentially help you live longer.

We treat all types of arrhythmias with cardiac ablation, including:

  • Atrial fibrillation (AFib)
  • Bradycardia
  • Premature ventricular contractions (PVC)
  • Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
  • Ventricular tachycardia (VT)
