If you or your child has cystic fibrosis, you’ve come to the right place.

The Providence Cystic Fibrosis Center offers excellent care and guidance to help you manage symptoms. The fact is, breathing issues and lung infections affect cystic fibrosis patients a little differently at different times in their lives. At Providence, we’ll closely monitor your disease throughout your life, and we’ll create a personalized exercise and treatment plan to help you live your life as fully and actively as possible.

To diagnose cystic fibrosis, your doctor may use:

  • Blood testing
  • Genetic or carrier testing
  • Newborn screening
  • Sweat chloride testing

To determine how severe your cystic fibrosis is and how to treat it, your doctor may use:

  • Chest x-ray
  • CT scan

To help control cystic fibrosis, we try to prevent lung infections and reduce mucus in the lungs. Your treatment plan is carefully tailored to your particular case.

We may prescribe:

  • Airway clearance techniques, involving coughing, huffing and use of devices
  • Antibiotics to treat lung infections
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce inflammation in your airways
  • Bronchodilators to help open your airways
  • Chest physical therapy
