Nursing Excellence
A Message from Our Chief Nursing Officer
As Chief Nursing Officer, it’s my privilege to virtually welcome you on behalf of the 2,000 nurses at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center to our ministry. Nurses at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center have proudly served the Portland community for over 150 years, continuing the distinguished legacy of compassion and service, established by the Sisters of Providence.
Nurses at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center comprise our largest workforce and are integral members of our interdisciplinary health care team. Their opinions are valued and sought in decisions regarding patient care, the systems that support care delivery and the environment in which care is provided. As a center of nursing excellence and six-time ANCC Magnet® designated facility, nurses at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center utilize evidence-based interventions to provide every patient with the highest quality care, upholding the Providence promise to “Know me, care for me, ease my way™”.
As a member of our executive team, I strive to understand the challenges nurses face every day and ensure they have the tools and resources to do their best work. This is accomplished through rounding, town halls and our robust shared decision-making structure in which we partner together to improve care for patients and their families.
Each and every day I’m privileged to bear witness to the skill, compassion, innovation and teamwork of the nurses who truly live our mission each and every day.
Elizabeth Paxton, PhD, MSN, RN, NEA-BC
Chief Nursing Officer
