Behavioral and Emotional Skills Training
BEST Program
The Behavioral and Emotional Skills Training (BEST) program offers intensive therapeutic support for children facing behavioral and emotional challenges due to trauma or mental health issues.
Our Approach
BEST is a therapist led, hospital-based day treatment program that provides intensive therapeutic treatment for children 7-12 years old. The program is designed for children who have behavioral and emotional problems related to past trauma or mental health issues. The program works to individually meet the needs of the child while improving their relationships with family and friends and school performance. Attendance ranges two to five days per week, based on the needs of the child.
We work closely with your family, local mental health providers, schools and other professionals to provide a program that meets the individual needs of your child. While enrolled, your child will work with professionals dedicated to their well-being, including a psychiatrist, registered nurse, licensed therapists, social worker and a Spokane Public School teacher.
Program goals
BEST is a day treatment program. Family therapy sessions will be scheduled with members of the team based on the needs of the child. The BEST program has four goals for parents. We want to help you:
- Understand the basics of managing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors
- Learn and apply your new skills consistently
- Increase your confidence in managing your child’s challenging needs
- Build a network of other caregivers for support after your training
