The Providence Mission reaches out beyond the walls of care settings to touch lives in the places where relief, comfort and care are needed. One important way we do this is through community benefit spending.
These investments not only support the health and well-being of our patients, but the whole community. Through programs and donations, Providence’s community benefit connects families with preventive care to keep them healthy, fills gaps in community services and provides opportunities that bring hope in difficult times.
When the Sisters of Providence and Sisters of St. Joseph began our tradition of caring, their ministry greatly depended on partnering with others in the community who were committed to doing good. Today, we collaborate with social service and government agencies, charitable foundations, community organizations, universities and many other partners to identify the greatest needs and create solutions together.
For generations, Providence has partnered with people of goodwill to offer a caring hand of compassion. We collaborate with social service and government agencies, charitable foundations, community organizations, universities and many other partners to identify the greatest needs through community health needs assessments. Then our solutions are reflected in community health improvement plans.
Providence Alaska is honored to sponsor local events as a way to further our Mission and connect with community members. All sponsorship requests are welcome, but greater priority is given to programs that serve the poor and vulnerable and/or promote community wellness.
Sponsorship requests are reviewed each December for the following calendar year. To be considered for a sponsorship, please submit our sponsorship request form by the first Friday in November for the following year. A member of the Providence Marketing & Communications department will contact you.
For more information, or if you missed the deadline to submit a request, please contact Katie Marquette, community relations manager, at 907-212-6081.
Does your 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization have a non-sponsorship request? Operational funds/ community partnership fund requests should be directed to the Providence Alaska Foundation.
Providence was formed by the journeys of courageous Catholic Sisters who sought to meet the needs of the communities they served. Two congregations in particular – the Sisters of Providence and the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange – had major roles in establishing and guiding the health system Providence is today.
Providence has a long history of serving Alaska, beginning when the Sisters of Providence first brought healthcare to Nome during the Gold Rush. In 1902, they established a hospital where they provided shelter and care to anyone, regardless of their ability to pay. Over the years that followed, the Sisters’ Mission carried them across Alaska to serve the growing communities in need.
This pioneering spirit set the standard for modern healthcare in Alaska and formed the foundation for Providence's growth as the state's leading healthcare provider. Further growth occurred in 2016, when Providence Health & Services (founded by the Sisters of Providence) joined with St. Joseph Health (founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange) to establish Providence St. Joseph Health. The health system combines the two systems to strengthen the Mission across seven Western states.
Today, Providence carries forward the legacy of these pioneers by reimagining the future of healthcare delivery and improving the health of individuals and communities across seven Western states. The Providence family of organizations remains rooted in its Mission to serve all, especially those who are poor and vulnerable, and committed to fulfilling its vision of Health for a Better World.
