Laboratory at Providence Center
Laboratory at Providence Center
The laboratory at Providence St. Patrick hospital is staffed by friendly, experienced technicians who will make your bloodwork or other lab test as easy and comfortable for you as possible. Our goal is to serve you quickly and keep you comfortable. We make sure to get your results to your doctor as quickly as possible as well.
Why do I need lab work?
Blood tests and other lab work provide useful information that helps your doctor diagnose, treat and monitor health conditions.
If you’re unsure why you’re having a particular test, we recommend speaking with your doctor. Lab staff are happy to answer questions about your test and how to prepare for it, but they may not know why your doctor has ordered the test.
Why must I fast before some lab tests?
Certain tests are sensitive to changes that occur in your body with digestion. For accurate results, it may be important to avoid eating or drinking anything but water before your test.
Fasting times vary depending on the type of test you’re having. If you have questions about whether or how long you should fast before a lab test, ask your doctor or contact us.
What should I do with my lab results?
We send a copy of your results to your doctor, but it can be helpful for you to keep a copy for yourself as well. That allows you to compare future test results.
If your test results are abnormal, it’s important to discuss them with your doctor.
