Magnet® Recognition Program

Providence Portland Medical Center first became a Magnet®-recognized hospital in 2005 and has been redesignated every five years in 2010, 2015 and 2020. Chief Nursing Officer Lori Green is proud to lead the redesignation efforts for 2025 – Providence Portland Medical Center’s fifth Magnet® journey.

The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® designates hospitals for quality patient care, clinical excellence and innovations in nursing practice. The program continually elevates patient care by encouraging environments where nurses, in collaboration with the interprofessional team, flourish and set the standards for excellence through leadership, scientific discovery and dissemination and implementation of new knowledge. Only 9.8% of hospitals in the U.S. are recognized for this clinical excellence award. Of those, only 3.4% of Magnet® hospitals have their fourth or higher designation.
