Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program
Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program
Our Approach
Providence Regional Medical Center Everett provides two short-term, structured behavioral health treatment programs, our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
Both of our programs help patients build effective coping skills that improve self-management of their behavioral health symptoms. Our programs provide more intensive support than traditional outpatient therapy may provide. We proudly embrace a trauma-informed environment of care, tailoring treatments to our patients’ individual needs.
Through short-term day treatment, we provide:
- Family sessions, as needed
- Group sessions during the week
- Psychiatric medication consultations
- Weekly one-on-one sessions
PHP and IOP let patients return to their home every evening after treatment, allowing them to continue to maintain independence and personal responsibilities while receiving support and treatment.

We help treat acute behavioral health needs with a variety of diagnostic and treatment-related services, including:
- Group psychotherapy
- Individual psychotherapy
- Pharmacy ancillary services
- Psychiatric evaluations and diagnosis
- Psychiatric medication consultations
- Spiritual care
As part of IOP or PHP, the care team could include a psychiatric advanced registered nurse practitioners (ARNP) and psychotherapists.
The PHP at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett is a short-term, intensive day-treatment program for individuals with acute behavioral health needs. The primary focus of PHP is to provide immediate, intensive support and provide patients with structure and coping tools as they maintain their daily lives.
Treatments are personalized to the individual and incorporate evidence-based methods, including:
- Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
- Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT)
PHP patients attend treatments on Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. for approximately 10 days. The duration of the program may depend on the individual’s needs and insurance coverage.
Our IOP is designed for less acute symptom management and is an option for individuals with behavioral health needs that still require intensive care. This program option includes less treatment days and hours, often providing a more flexible opportunity for treatment.
Patients receive expert care but with a different schedule and duration of treatment. This allows individuals to still receive behavioral health support while spending an increased amount of time in their daily living environment prioritizing the balancing of work and other responsibilities.
IOP patients attend treatments on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. for approximately 3-6 weeks. The duration of the program may depend on the individual’s needs and insurance coverage.
Our programs are appropriate for people who:
- Aren’t an imminent danger to themselves or others
- Can access support networks in the community to help after program hours
- Can participate in intensive, group-based therapy
- Can take medications as prescribed
- Continue to have symptoms that require more support than what’s possible in a traditional outpatient or one-on-one setting
- Experience acute mental health symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, which are likely to require inpatient hospitalization if left untreated
- Have reliable transportation, though some support may be possible
- Have significant difficulty with normal daily responsibilities, such as self-care, work, school and/or care of dependents
- Would benefit from structure and intensive skills practice
