Sample tubes in a medical laboratory.

Our certified phlebotomists will make your trip to the lab as easy, comfortable and as quick as possible. They complete more than 300,000 blood draws each year and are skilled in working with people of all ages, including children.

Nearly three-quarters of all medical decisions doctors make are based on the results of blood work and other lab tests. The Laboratory at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center provides doctors with the information they need to help prevent, diagnose, treat and monitor disease.

While the phlebotomists are often the face of our lab, they’re backed by licensed pathologists, board-certified medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians, and lab assistants – all working together to make sure you and your doctor get accurate, quick results.

We offer a full range of laboratory services, including:

  • Blood bank
  • Chemistry
  • Cytology
  • Electron microscopy
  • Flow cytometry
  • Hematology
  • Histology
  • Microbiology

A full directory of the tests we offer is available here.

We are licensed by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Facility and accredited by the Joint Commission.

Open 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. (last check-in no later than 4:45 p.m.)

What should I expect?

Upon arrival all patients must register through the Admitting Department at the surgery check-in desk at the Main floor surgery check-in. After registering, you can remain in our waiting room until we call your name. Your phlebotomist will then take you to the area where your blood will be drawn. You can expect to encounter friendly, helpful staff throughout your visit. They aim to serve you quickly and keep you as comfortable as possible.

Do I need an appointment?

We require a doctor's order for your visit, but in most cases, you do not need an appointment. However, if you are scheduled for a sweat chloride test or a whole blood aggregation test, you will need to make an appointment. Please call 509-474-4444 to schedule your visit and to receive any necessary instructions.

How will I receive my results?

Lab reports are sent directly to your doctor, who will then contact you with your results. If you would like a copy for your personal records, you can request one either through your physician's office or by accessing MyChart.

If you are interested in the intersection of science and medicine, laboratory medicine may be a career for you.

Graduates of the school are eligible to take the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification exam. They are highly recruited and often go on to become leaders in laboratory medicine.
