Stroke

When a stroke happens, every second counts. At the Stroke Center at Providence Regional, our team of experts delivers lifesaving care 24/7. When you come to us with stroke symptoms, our team offers the full spectrum of care – from fast, accurate diagnosis and expert treatment to rehabilitation and a stroke support group.
Our team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, neurointerventionalists, rehab specialists, nurses and therapists provide care to more people with strokes than any other hospital in Washington. Through our partnership with Swedish Neuroscience Institute, we have immediate access to neurointerventionalists who can provide 24/7 endovascular thrombectomy services for acute stroke patients.
Knowing stroke symptoms can save a life. If you suspect someone is having a stroke, think FAST:
- Face - Is one area of their face drooping or numb? Ask them to smile.
- Arms - Is one arm weak or numb? Ask them to raise both arms.
- Speech - Is their speech slurred? Ask them to repeat a simple sentence.
- Time - If you notice these symptoms, call 911 right away, even if the symptoms go away.
Epilepsy
Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurologic condition, affecting 50 - 60 million people worldwide and 3.4 million people in the U.S. One in 10 Americans will have a single seizure in their lifetime, and close to 1 in 30 will go on to have epilepsy.
In Washington State, there are 74,600 people living with epilepsy. The condition can impact all aspects of life including autonomy and independence with driving and working, family planning, sleep, mood, fertility and even life expectancy. We make sure you don’t have to navigate these challenges alone.
Our services include an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and Multidisciplinary Team for Epilepsy Diagnosis.
The Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett is a specialized inpatient unit designed to evaluate, diagnose, and treat seizures. It’s the only one of its kind in Snohomish County.
Epilepsy, seizures and seizure-like disorders can be challenging to treat since each person is unique. The best treatment may include medication, stimulation techniques, diets or surgical procedures.
Identifying the most appropriate treatment plan starts with a thorough evaluation and diagnosis. Equipped with computer-based monitoring equipment specifically designed for the evaluation of seizure disorders, Providence's EMU team can gather data before a seizure starts, while one is occurring and during recovery.
This invaluable information provides answers about the characteristics of the seizures and helps us identify the type or types you have. It may also reveal other clues that can shape your treatment.
The EMU brings together specially trained experts in technology and patient care specific to epilepsy in a Multidisciplinary Team for Epilepsy Diagnosis. Your EMU team may include Providence neurologists, internists, nurse specialists, technologists, psychiatrists, case managers, and social workers to cover all the aspects of life affected by seizures.
Neurotrauma
The Neurotrauma Program at Providence Regional Medical Center has neurosurgeons who are specifically trained and equipped to diagnose and treat all types of neurotrauma — sudden head or spine injury. It includes concussions, traumatic brain injuries, skull fractures, spinal column fractures and spinal cord injuries.
